I'm glad you're here.
My name is Janie. I was born and raised in Texas... and I can't stand the heat! I'm addicted to reading and learning. My kindle is my favorite 'toy.' Most weekends, you will find me enjoying a long workout at the gym, burrowed in my bed reading a good book, or eating cupcakes with my husband and kids.
My health journey has taken me a long way from where I started.
Growing up, there were very few times that I 'worked out.' Being homeschooled, my PE classes consisted of things like playing games outside, riding my bike and jumping on the trampoline. When I joined a basketball team in the 4th grade, I hated every second of it.
After high school, my then boyfriend (now husband) was very active in the Crossfit community. He invited me to come with him to a class. I almost threw up the first time I did a workout with them, and that was enough to make me never want to do it again (although I did go a few more times.)
After my husband, Jon, and I got married, I got a job as a cake decorator at a bakery. My diet typically included a cupcake or two... every day. The first two years of my marriage, I gained 35 pounds.
Then I got pregnant. During my pregnancy, my midwife encouraged me to eat healthier and start working out. I tried to eat healthy foods, but I really didn't have much knowledge about healthy eating. It took me several years of baby steps to feel confident in my diet and in the foods that I eat.
When my son was almost a year old, I started doing free yoga videos online. I instantly fell in love (it really was instant. After I tried the first or second video, I started doing research to find out how to become a yoga teacher!) I started practicing yoga consistently and I began to lose weight.
I started to love my body again, for the first time in years. When I passed mirrors, I would look at my new muscle definition with excitement. I was so proud of myself. I put in hard work doing an activity that I actually enjoyed, and I started to see changes in my body.
After my daughter was born, I began weightlifting. I was scared at first because I didn't know what I was doing. I would sit in my car for 10 minutes working up the courage to go inside the gym. Despite my nervousness, I loved lifting weights. Eventually excitement and confidence replaced nervousness.
I believe that physical activity can be fun. Healthy foods can be delicious. 'Diets' don't have to be miserably restrictive. Well-fed, healthy, nourished, strong bodies help us live our lives more easily.
To have knowledge is to feel empowered. So I have spent the last 5 years studying as much continuing education material as possible. I’ve done this for myself, but also for you. My calling is to help you feel empowered and confident. Nothing makes me happier than sharing information and teaching people how to change their own lives.
My mission is to equip you. To give you the knowledge and skills that will make a difference in your life. I believe in you. I believe that YOU are capable, strong and worthy. You're amazing, and you can do hard things.
If we haven't met yet, schedule a call, or find me on Instagram! I would love to meet you!
